It is looking like I am going to end up having to rewire my house. The house was built back in the 1950’s and currently has no grounded outlets. Some past home owners tried to patch things up by adding some GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit-Interrupter) which is an acceptable substitute in some cases. I pulled out the outlet the TV is plugged into, so I could check the wiring and sure enough no ground wire is run to the box.
I did check out the service panel on the outside of the house and it is grounded, but I am not sure if that ground is running to my breaker box inside the house…?
At this point I am planning to run new wiring along side the existing wiring to the breaker box. After I get the wiring run the way I want it, I would like to get an electrician to come out and upgrade my breaker box and connect the new wiring. This may change as I investigate this some more.
